Breakfast in Canada

Hello. Apologies in advance for my stream of consciousness posting.

I just finished Dinner in America, I've been really wanting to watch it but I stopped after the first five minutes a few months ago because I got freaked. I'm really glad I finished it now!

It was stupid and fun and unrealistic -- it reminded me so well of when I was twelve reading Wattpad stories. Kyle Gallner's hair was greasy but he is also so so so gorgeous. He looks like a musketeer or something. (After writing this I just found out HE'S THE GUY FROM JENNIFER'S BODY, ONE OF MY FAVOURITE MOVIES OF ALL TIME!!! I had the hugest crush on Colin when I first watched it, no way. WHAT.) And Emily Skegg's smile is beautiful. But really it was exactly like a Wattpad story, and you know what, I LIKED IT (because I also liked those). I always have to wade through a sea full of crappy romance movies between regular-looking men and model-esque women, so I felt like this film was for the girls-who-are-gross like me and so I had absolutely no choice but to appreciate it. Like, what the heck are movie producers/directors/whoever DOING??? There is a huge market for these kinds of films for us freaks, but no, they keep producing junk for men where women are hugely objectified or placed on a pedestal and the guys are Adam Sandler with the same amount of charm as a flip flop. It's so boring. Also, I thought it was funny how, in the beginning when Simon meets the girl with the bob (???) and we see the bus stop scene, we're expecting like one of those typical indie romances where everyone is cool and effortless in a non-awkward real-life way, but instead we get something different instead. That was neat.

The only thing is I don't know if Patty was autistic, but I thought it was lame how they ended up infantilizing her as if they weren't sure what to do with her character. When she kept asking for the definitions of random words it felt lazy considering she is a 20 year old adult, who, despite her neurodivergence, would absolutely more than likely know what those words meant. But I get it's supposed to be a black comedy. And for a stupid film, it was pretty cool. Also I didn't know that one song I keep hearing was THIS MOVIE, I was so excited to hear it!!! AND I CAN'T BELIEVE IT CAME OUT FIVE YEARS AGO, the party has already packed up and gone home :(

Also, I think this is the ONLY romance film I've watched where a female protagonist is allowed to be flawed in an actual, real way. Despite what I said, I did really, really relate to her, and I think a lot of other people did too. She was weird and earnest and unabashed and I think that's something really important. Whatever, anyways, it was a cute dumb film and I liked it so much I added it to my favourite movies' list. So there.

Oh my gosh, as a side note I just remembered that I can no longer take any more PICTURES that don't look like they were smeared with sunscreen because on my birthday my sister and I went canoeing and I dropped my phone in the lake. And now it's just in mud somewhere. I feel so bad, sorry lake. I hated that phone so much though because it was previously owned by my awful uncle and you could tell it was handled by someone with no soul. But the camera worked 'cause it wasn't cracked by me. Oh shoot, it does really suck because I lost all my pictures. I had my cool Weezer concert videos on there too, among other things. So sad.

Okay bye, g'night all :^) I hope you have a wonderful, wonderful, lovely week,
